| Rainy skies and a chance to win $5000 brought ropers from all over the western region to rope at the South Jordan 3-4 Oct 2008 at the Annual Big Bucks Roping despite the weather. Friday evening brought out more than 225 teams of ropers for the Open Draw and the Jr/Sr roping.
Troy and Justin Shinsel were the winners of the Open Draw with a 20.62 on 3 steers for a cash prize of $480 followed by Dalton Crinton and Brady Ramone in 2nd with a 22.25 seconds for $270. Third prize for $220 went to Ben Jaussi and Dusty Morse for a time of 24.45 seconds, 4th to Garrett Stewart and Dean Williams with a time of 24.71 and $180. Dalton Crinton and Brendon Crozier brought up 5th with a 25.91 seconds to take home $150 and 6th place went to Luke Hansen and Shane Jensen with a 27.85 seconds for $100. Fast go Benson Ramone & Ben Jaussi 5.36 $50. Following the Open Draw we went straight into the Jr/Sr roping. The number of teams were few but the competition was fierce. Teams were battling out for 3 places. Garrett Stewart and Brady Ramone came up with a 36.04 on 3 steers to take 1st with Bradi Huxford and Justin Shinsel on their heels to take 2nd with a 36.05 on 3. Garrett Stewart and Justin Shinsel took 3rd with a 16.61 on 2. Fast Go: Jnell Huxford & Rylee Meachum 7.28 $20. Saturday brought more rain and more ropers to South Jordan and in the end one man would walk away the decisive winner of the Big Bucks. After 8 hours of roping Ken Groves of South Jordan took home the $5K Brief Case.. Trent Cloward & Ken Groves won the Average with a time of 24.78 seconds on 3 and took home Saddles and $1500. Second place, Saddles and $1000, went to Cody Christensen and Kent Profit with a time of 25.49 seconds. The third set of saddles and $500 went to Lance Larson and Ken Groves for a time of 26.86 seconds. Fourth thru sixth places each received buckles with their cash prizes and they are – 4th Link Chynoweth and Tyrell Bailey with a 27.27 seconds - $300, 5th Russ Swilor and Buzz Shahan with a 27.44 seconds - $200, 6th Davi Watterson and Tyrell Bailey with a 27.56 - $100. Fsst go winners: Rich martin, Gato Sandoval 7.13$100. Kason Graff & Bob Bowler 7.97 $100. Rocky Wasson & JD Johnson 6.27 $100. Mark Broughton & Miguel Menendez $100. Reed larsen & Jace Mitchell $100.
